Jane Powell: About consulting

I consult on all aspects of early 20th century houses, including kitchens, bathrooms, other rooms, interior and exterior colors, etc. I only consult- I do not do the actual work or oversee projects. The consultation is a collaborative process, where we work together to solve problems and get the results you want. To the extent feasible, I can point you towards resources, contractors, etc. to help with what you want to do.

I make no claims to being an architect or an interior designer. I'm just a professional know-it-all who happens to know a lot about old houses. I use that knowledge, along with common sense, to help you achieve something that works for you and still looks like it belongs in your house.

I charge $175 an hour, and I can tell you a lot in an hour (or two). After the initial consultation, I will answer questions via phone or e-mail at no charge. Obviously, if you live far away from the San Francisco area, you may have to pay my airfare. I often am able to do some consulting when I am visiting different places to give lectures or do photo shoots.
